Executive Summary

The Executive Director serves as chief administrative officer for the Breast Cancer Fund of Ohio and is charged with implementing policies and programs for the benefit of women and men undergoing treatment for breast cancer in Ohio. The Executive Director is appointed by the Board of Directors and is administratively responsible to the Board. This is a part-time position, averaging 15-20 hours per week.  Candidate must be an Ohio resident.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Furthers the mission of the Breast Cancer Fund of Ohio: help Ohio breast cancer patients survive the hardships of cancer treatments by providing emergency financial assistance.
  2. Builds relationships and strategic partnerships with potential grantees, health care advocates, state agencies, funders, and community leaders throughout the state of Ohio to promote the organization and its mission.
  3. Promotes the breast cancer awareness license plate throughout the state of Ohio and raises funds from individuals, groups, corporations, foundations and other potential contributors. Responds to donors with thank you letters and website recognition.
  4. Coordinates participation at promotional events throughout the state that reach the organization’s targeted audiences. Trains and supervises volunteers and contract staff.
  5. Works with the state Department of Public Safety for all license plate sales reports.
  6. Manages the grant making process: requests applications from representative nonprofit organizations throughout the state of Ohio, vets the applications to ensure compliance and eligibility, forwards the appropriate applications to the Board, distributes the funds as voted by the Board, and ensures that the grantees meet all reporting requirements. 
  7. Adheres to the Financial Accountability Standards of the Ohio Association of Nonprofit Organizations in order to maximize financial accountability and transparency.
    1. Creates an annual budget and submits it to the Board for approval.
    2. Maintains financial reports on a monthly basis that accurately reflect the financial activity of the organization and its accordance with the annual budget. Produces a bank statements to the Board upon request.
    3. Presents full financial reports to the Board for review in March, June, September, and December.
    4. Approves any expenditures less than $500 and pays by credit card. Files all credit card receipts electronically. All other purchases will be made via checks co-signed by the Treasurer.
  8. Recruits diverse Board members to ensure that the entire state is represented.
  9. Plans, formulates, and recommends for the approval of the Board of Directors basic policies and programs that will further the strategic plan of the organization.
  10. Ensures that the Board is kept fully informed on the conditions and operations of the organization, as well as all important factors influencing it. Attends all meetings of the Board and the Executive Committee.
  11. Represents the Breast Cancer Fund of Ohio professionally and with compassion.
  12. Fulfills any other duties as assigned by the Board.

Qualifications

  1. Minimum five years management experience in a nonprofit setting that demonstrates proficiency in successful public relations, fundraising, coalition building, and financial management.
  2. Demonstrated success of effectively leading organizational growth through strategic planning.
  3. Strong and effective oral and written communication skills. Must be Microsoft Office proficient, i.e. Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc. 
  4. Must be proficient in QuickBooks.
  5. Bachelor's Degree preferred, but not required.
